Diary

Nothing special today, there was a writing test, though, so I will share you about some of my personal interesting points about Canada after coming here about one month.

First, there are many types of people in Canada, especially in Toronto. If you take TTC which is a main transportation in Toronto, you can feel it. For Japanese, you might think that there are a lot of blond-hair Whites in Canada, no matter how much Toronto is known as a racial mosaic, but this is not the case at all. There are many dark-hair people. There are many Blacks, Latinos and Asians. I worried about Asian hate until I came here. However, I have never seen any discrimination fortunately, because there are many Asians in the local population to begin with. Or I just haven't noticed...?

I have never been discriminated against by locals, but I have been told by my language school friends what might be considered discrimination. For example, they posed like narrow eyes. But I don't think they want to discriminate against me. They were really surprised and apologized when I warned them and also they told French people in a person that the French have too much pride. Perhaps they are just very prejudiced. By the way, when I look at Asians such as Koreans, Filipinos, Japanese, etc., I think they have a stronger sense of self-awareness and acceptance that they can be discriminated against than others. This is also prejudice.

Also, in Japan, some teachers don't allow students to not only eat but also drink water during class, but ILAC is different. I knew that this was common around the world, but it was really funny when a classmate suddenly took an apple out of her bag and started biting into it.

There are many other things, but that’s all for today.
